Who or What is Zebra?

Zebra is my moniker. When I first started practising Muay Thai, I bought a pair of boxing gloves with black and white tiger stripes. One of the coaches was teasing me, "there's no such thing as black and white tigers, these are zebra stripes!" And he started calling me Zebra and this nickname has stayed with me till this day.

I was making videos of Muay Thai competitions for the Gym, and my friends who liked the videos (jokingly) said I should start a production house called "Zebra productionZ". Well, I started a handicraft business instead. Even though people may not be able to associate this name with my crafts, it's the name that I identify with the most.

Handicraft? Programming?

My background is in software engineering. Over the past few years, I've been bouncing between my career as a software developer and my handicraft business. I don't think I can be fully satisfied with just either one.

Since then, I have developed a broader view on my career development. Rather than limiting myself to just handicraft or just programming, I like to think of myself as someone who creates something by pulling knowledge from many different disciplines, someone who translates an idea or an emotion or a thought into a tangible form, someone who can identify the problem and solves it in a unique way. Programming and handicraft just happened to be two media that I use to express myself.

I'm also fascinated by how technology can fit within crafting. I believe to be a crafter, it doesn’t mean you have to go back to the stone age. Many people already use computers, printers, sewing machines or die cut machines, etc. in their crafts, and we are starting to see 3D printer, laser cutter and electrical components being incorporated as well. I'm constantly learning and experimenting with new things so that I can have a mixture of technology and craftsmanship represented in my projects.
